Vegan bazaar in solidarity with the DoggyBagCrew shelter.![]()

The DoggyBagCrew animal shelter is organizing a solidarity bazaar to continue the construction of the shelter, cover veterinary expenses, and feed the animals inside and outside the shelter.![]()

Oscar and Sting are the new residents of our shelter! They were found wandering together in the streets, and for a few months now, Oscar and Sting have been inseparable.![]()

This kind of pig is bred for its meat, but we have no clue where he came from or how he ended up on the streets. He was wearing a collar that became tighter as he grew. A few days before he was caught, he could no longer eat. The residents of the area, with the help of a vet, managed to catch him that same night, and the collar was removed immediately. The collar left a big scar on his neck, but he is doing great now.![]()

The piglet (Oscar) is completely attached to the dog (Sting), following him literally everywhere. He wants to eat from the same bowl and sleep right next to him. On the day they were brought to the shelter, we had to take them out of the car they were in. We took the dog out first, and the piglet started hitting himself in the crate and screaming, just from being a few seconds away from the dog.![]()

Sting is not always happy about it, and he is trying to reclaim his personal space. We built a large house for the two of them, but Sting took it over! So, we had to build a second one. For the moment, they are living together until another pig arrives to be Oscar's companion. Pigs are very social animals, and they love companionship.![]()

Since they were both strays, the residents fed them the same food. Oscar was also given dog food or human-cooked food, a habit we are trying to change. We cook for them every day, adding nutritious ingredients, and we are testing which fruits and vegetables he likes the most.![]()

Neither of them was approachable at first, but we are making progress. Sting might be tiny, but he’s a little troublemaker, so we are not surprised that he survived on the streets. Every sign suggests that he will be the most spoiled in the shelter, yet he is undeniably adorable.![]()

The place where they live will not be permanent since Oscar will need a much bigger space as he grows. We want to create a space with stones for the pigs, which is much better than using metal or wood. Before that, we need to cover the road leading to the shelter with around 60 meters of concrete. We are already facing difficulties during rainy days, and we don't want to get stuck in the field. We also want to start planting vegetables and trees to feed ourselves, the animals, and the people coming to help us.![]()

Except for the third kitten, who, unfortunately, we didn’t succeed in finding in the neighborhood where they used to live, the rest were lucky enough! ![]()

Snow found a family in Patras, and Pika found a family in Athens. The mother will travel soon to Belgium! After we finish all the necessary procedures to allow her to travel, her new family will come to Greece just for her, to ensure a safer journey! ![]()

We are so happy for all of them and the fact that they will be safe and loved from now on!![]()

The mother had a parasite, and now she's under medication for a few days. She is lucky that we took care of it, and she will be well soon. It's important to offer complete care to stray animals, not only feed them. ![]()

We don't think that humans are the saviors of animals, but we believe that it's important to take care of others, no matter the species.

The tattoos will be by free donation for the first few months. Are you planning to visit the shelter and assist us in building it? Now it's the best season for that! Here are a few things you need to know!![]()

🌱 Whether you're vegan or not, all products used inside the shelter must be vegan, cruelty-free, and eco-friendly. This includes food, drinks, shampoos, soaps, etc. All water will either end up in nature or be collected, so no chemical products can be used, except for medical reasons.![]()
![]()
🌱 The shelter is an alcohol-free and drug-free place. Smokers can use specific areas, and cigarettes/tobacco must be cruelty-free.![]()
![]()
🌱 We are all responsible for keeping the place clean and safe! 90% of the area was burnt four years ago, so we have zero tolerance for behaviors that could endanger the mountain and the animals.![]()
![]()
🌱 We cover a part of the food, but everyone is responsible for finding ways/solutions for the remainder. ![]()
![]()
🌱 Accommodation will be in tents or in a van. Currently, we only have two large tents, so bringing your own camping equipment is recommended. We provide outdoor DIY showers, compost toilets, cooking and kitchen equipment. For energy, we utilize solar panels, a generator, and gas.![]()

🌱 The shelter is located on a mountain, so having a vehicle for independence is recommended but not obligatory. We can provide transportation when we move.![]()
![]()
🌱 Racist, sexist, transphobic, homofobic, speciesist or any other authoritarian behavior will not be tolerated.![]()

🌱 The maximum stay at the shelter for each individual is two weeks.![]()

You don't need special skills to offer your help! If you're unfamiliar with a tool, you can learn. We can all learn from each other and contribute our skills and creativity to build the vegan shelter. What matters is being motivated to help. ![]()

Summer has finally come to an end, and we are truly relieved! It was a challenging 3 month period for us, both physically and mentally. Nevertheless, we did our best during the hours when the sun was less intense.![]()

We didn’t receive the help we had hoped for, but we understand that it was hard for people to give up the few days of holiday they had and come to a place where they would be baking in the sun!![]()

We were very transparent about the tough conditions since we didn’t want anyone to come and regret it. Thanks to everyone who came to help us! Their support was encouraging, reminding us that we weren’t left to struggle alone on the mountain. September found us with people from Athens that came to help, and we were able to complete some necessary tasks. ![]()

In order to shield the caravan and the tent from the elements during the winter, we must arrange the construction of a pergola and install a lightning rod. The good news is that the first solar panel system will be ready soon. A concrete foundation was built, on which to set up a metal box with the fridge, hot water shower, and washing machine. The entire system was a gift from relatives to make our winter easier and more pleasant for those who will come to lend a hand.![]()

Both the cat and the pig places are at the top of our list of things to accomplish. We have finished painting the container, now we just need to insulate it. We plan to create a graffiti of Aria on one side in her memory! The remaining sides will be focused on animal liberation! PM us if you make graffiti. ![]()

From now on, we know that we will find more pleasure in our time spent at the shelter, our motivation for work will increase and any doubts we had this summer about building the shelter from scratch will fade away. ![]()

"Doggybagcrew is an anti-speciesist association whose members have been advocating for animal liberation in Greece since 2016. During a trip across the country, they observed an alarming level of animal abuse & abandonment, which prompted them to take action. Their first initiative involved collecting medicine & food that were destined to be discarded in Belgium & then transporting them to Greece. They also financially ![]()
supported local associations by organizing fundraising events to cover veterinary costs. ![]()
By visiting shelters, they helped build infrastructure for the animals, always using the ![]()

Their goal is to create an anti-speciesist shelter that would provide a safe space for both ![]()

This summer, they welcomed the first non-human animals & gradually started building living spaces for everyone. DoggyBagCrew refuses any assistance from the government or the European Union due to their political convictions & they mainly self-finance through solidarity events. Aria, also known as Raccoon or Skataria, left us one week ago. Our hearts are broken, and it’s hard not to think of her constantly. Aria joined Elisavet’s life 15 years ago and became part of the Doggybagcrew a little over two years ago. In these past years, she traveled many kilometers, saw landscapes, and met friends. Always with us, often in her cozy corner but always at Niko’s feet when he drove and ate spanakopita. ![]()

Her breath wasn’t great, and her tongue hung out, which people joked about, but we told her they were just jealous because she was the most beautiful in the world. ![]()

She was 15 years old, missing quite a few teeth, with a collapsed trachea and a faulty heart valve, but she didn’t show it and lived her life without worry. ![]()

As attached as she was to her human, it was in her arms that she passed away... without warning. Until her last day, she was a happy playful little raccoon, enjoying life. ![]()

She waited to celebrate her 15th birthday and Elisavet’s birthday to give us one last memory of a beautiful day by the river. ![]()

We will never forget you. You will always be with us, and we are grateful for your unconditional love, especially for elisavet. ![]()

UPDATE 1/9: The white boy found a family in Patras! The black and white girl is coming with us in Athens to her new family! Mom is still looking for a family! We visited the vet last week and they are all well! ![]()

This lovely cat mom and her three kittens are looking for a family or a safe place until they are adopted! The babies (2 males and 1 female) were born in mid-June, in a yard in a village close to Nafpaktos. The family that lived in the house was taking care of them until now, but they are moving in a few days! ![]()

Unfortunately, we don’t have a suitable space available at the shelter for them yet, and the kittens can easily escape through the fence’s holes. With so many predators outside—such as weasels, jackals, and foxes—this situation could turn dangerous, and we don’t want to take that risk. The foster home could be anywhere, but the most convenient locations would be near Nafpaktos, Patras, or Athens.![]()

Next week, we have a vet appointment for a check-up. The kittens are all very friendly and sweet, and the mother gets along well with both dogs and children. She’s very young, about 1 year old, and doesn’t have a name yet—so feel free to suggest some in the comments to help us name this beauty. ![]()

Η πανέμορφη γατομαμα και τα 3 μωράκια ψάχνουν οικογένεια ή προσωρινή φιλοξενία! Τα μωρά (2 αγοράκια και 1 κοριτσάκι) γεννήθηκαν στα μέσα Ιουνίου σε μια αυλή σε ένα χωριό κοντά στη Ναύπακτο. Η οικογένεια που ζει στο σπίτι τα φρόντιζε μέχρι τώρα όμως μέσα στις επόμενες ημέρες θα μετακομίσουν.![]()

Δυστυχώς στο καταφύγιο δεν έχουμε χώρο διαμορφωμένο για μωρά γατακια και πολύ εύκολα μπορούν να ξεφύγουν από την περίφραξη. Με τόσους θηρευτές τριγύρω - όπως νυφιτσες, τσακάλια, αλεπούδες κτλ - η κατάσταση μπορεί να γίνει επικίνδυνη και δεν θέλουμε να πάρουμε αυτό το ρίσκο. Η φιλοξενία τους μπορεί να γίνει οπουδήποτε, ωστόσο το πιο βολικό θα ήταν κάπου κοντά στη Ναύπακτο, στην Πάτρα ή στην Αθήνα.![]()

Την επόμενη εβδομάδα έχουμε ραντεβού με κτηνίατρο για ένα Check up. Τα μωράκια είναι πολύ φιλικά και παιχνιδιαρικα και η μαμά τα πηγαίνει τέλεια με σκυλιά και παιδάκια. Είναι πολύ μικρή σε ηλικία, περίπου ενός έτους και δεν έχει όνομα ακόμα.![]()

It's been almost a month and a half since we moved to the shelter! It's been a tough period, not because of the amount of work, but due to the hot summer and the lack of trees.![]()

We are very happy though to have our first residents and to see them enjoying this place! So far, we have welcomed four dogs: Chaido, Paraskevas, and Garry, and Bruce. We also have some cats that need to come, and after that, we will focus on making the place more livable for all of us. Bringing water for two humans, nine non-humans, and plants takes a lot of time (and gas). Chaido loves getting into the dog pool, so we try to keep it filled in case she wants to jump in!![]()

Everyone's asking us, 'How can you handle living under these conditions?' and 'Where did you get that tan?' Well, obviously not from the beach 😂![]()

The ideal scenario would have been to plant trees before we moved in, but without a water permit, that wasn't an option. We're still waiting for it, but paperwork in Greece takes ages. Fortunately, there are some trees and bushes where the dogs can find some refreshment!![]()

The recent calls for help didn't yield much, so we need to slow down for the moment. The expenses are very high; this month's costs were around 2000€, including building materials, fences, paints, and more. We spent over 400€ on Garry, who has leishmaniasis and kidney problems, and over 300€ on Rouki, who has FIV, stomatitis, and a skin allergy. Bruce's area cost around 500€ to be fenced. He takes time to get used to other dogs, and a private area was needed. Additionally, we are feeding stray cats in the village. Summer is a slow season for solidarity events, so we're waiting for September to come, hoping for some financial help.![]()

Next on our to-do list is to insulate and paint the container, finish the cat area, create a space for pigs, organize the land and plan where to plant, put solar panels and build a more secure structure for the caravan to make it livable in winter. And there's much more to do beyond that.![]()

🐱 Ο Ρουκι ψάχνει για την παντοτινή του οικογένεια! 🐱![]()

Ο Ρουκι μας βρήκε πριν από ένα χρόνο και από τότε έχουμε αναλάβει τη φροντίδα του. Δυστυχώς είναι θετικός σε FIV και έπρεπε να τον απομακρύνουμε από την αυλή που ζούσε ώστε να μη μεταδοθεί και στα υπόλοιπα γατιά. Ο Ρουκι δεχόταν επιθέσεις από τα υπόλοιπα αρσενικά γατιά της γειτονιάς και δεν του αρέσει πλέον να ζει έξω. Από τον Φεβρουάριο είναι σε φιλοξενία και απολαμβάνει τη νέα του ζωη!![]()

Λόγω του FIV το ανοσοποιητικό σύστημα του Ρουκι είναι πολύ αδύναμο. Εμφανισε δερματική αλλεργία και εδώ και κάποιους μήνες λαμβάνει θεραπεία. Οι πληγές έχουν σχεδόν κλείσει όμως πρεπει να συνεχίσει να λαμβάνει apoquel δύο φορές τη μέρα. Αν όλα πάνε καλά, η δόση θα μειωθεί το φθινόπωρο όμως θα πρέπει να συνεχίσει να την παίρνει για ένα χρόνο. Σκοπεύαμε να δημιουργήσουμε ένα FIV friendly χώρο στο καταφύγιο ειδικά για τον Ρουκι αλλά θα πρέπει να ζει απομονωμένος από τις υπόλοιπες γάτες. Αγαπάει πολύ τη νεα του ζωη μέσα σε σπιτι και δεν θέλουμε να του το στερήσουμε αυτό. Αν και θα θέλαμε πολύ να τον έχουμε μαζί μας στο καταφύγιο.![]()

Ο Ρουκι τα πηγαίνει τέλεια με σκυλιά, παιδάκια και άλλες γάτες. Λατρεύει τα χάδια, τα μαλακά κρεβάτια, τους ανθρώπους, το φαγητό και το να μιλάει! Πολύ συχνά προσποιείται ότι έχει να φάει μέρες οπότε μην πέσετε στην παγίδα του! Είναι γύρω στα 7 και στειρωμενος. Το Doggybagcrew θα καλύψει τις επόμενες εξαγωγές δοντιών και την αγωγή του μέχρι και ένα μήνα μετά από όταν βρει οικογένεια.![]()

Οι γάτες θετικές σε FIV είναι πιο δύσκολο να βρουν ζωοθεσια, γι'αυτο κάθε κοινοποίηση είναι πολύ πολύ σημαντική για να βοηθήσουμε τον Ρουκι να βρει το νέο του σπίτι!![]()

Rouki found us while we were living in a village near the shelter. We took care of him for a year while he lived in our yard. Unfortunately, he is FIV positive, so we had to place him in a foster home to prevent the virus from spreading to other stray cats. Rouki had been bullied by other male cats and no longer enjoys living on the streets. He is now living his best life with our friend Vassilis, who has been caring for him since February!![]()

Because of the FIV, Rouki's immune system is very weak. He developed a skin allergy and has been under treatment for a few months now. The wounds are almost healed, but he needs to take an Apoquel pill twice a day. If everything goes well, his medication will be reduced in the autumn, but he will need to continue it for a year. Rouki also has stomatitis, and he requires an injection from the vet every 2-3 months, depending on his symptoms. We've already had two of his bad teeth removed, and two more will need to be extracted.![]()

We were planning to create a special FIV area just for him at the shelter, but he would need to be isolated from other cats. Rouki really loves his new life, and we don’t want to take that away from him, even though we would love to have him here with us.![]()

Rouki gets along well with dogs, kids, and other cats (though they need to be FIV-positive too). He loves cuddling, soft beds, humans, food, and talking! He often pretends to be starving to convince you to give him more food, so don’t let him fool you! Rouki is around 7 years old and neutered. We will cover the costs for his upcoming dental procedures and the medication for the next month after he is adopted. ![]()
