The Doggybagcrew shelter will be open to welcome people for help starting May 20, 2024! We are coming back from Belgium in May, with a van full of material and supplies for the shelter and the animals! Are you planning to visit the shelter and assist us in building it? Here are a few things you need to know!![]()

🌱 Whether you're vegan or not, all products used inside the shelter must be vegan, cruelty-free, and eco-friendly. This includes food, drinks, shampoos, soaps, etc. All water will either end up in nature or be collected, so no chemical products can be used, except for medical reasons.![]()

🌱 The shelter is an alcohol-free and drug-free place. Smokers can use specific areas, and cigarettes/tobacco must be cruelty-free.![]()

🌱 We are all responsible for keeping the place clean and safe! 90% of the area was burnt four years ago, so we have zero tolerance for behaviors that could endanger the mountain and the animals.![]()

🌱 We cover a part of the food, but everyone is responsible for finding ways/solutions for the remainder. ![]()

🌱 Accommodation will be in tents or in a van. Currently, we only have two large tents, so bringing your own camping equipment is recommended. We provide outdoor DIY showers, compost toilets, cooking and kitchen equipment. For energy, we utilize solar panels, a generator, and gas.![]()

🌱 The shelter is located on a mountain, so having a vehicle for independence is recommended but not obligatory. We can provide transportation when we move.![]()

🌱 Racist, sexist, transphobic, homofobic, speciesist or any other authoritarian behavior will not be tolerated.![]()

🌱 The maximum stay at the shelter for each individual is two weeks.![]()

Here are the most important tasks to start with:![]()
🐽 Building the wooden house, fence, and pond for the geese/turkeys.![]()
🐽 Clearing the land of rocks, burnt wood, etc.![]()
🐽 Constructing a DIY kitchen and pergola.![]()
🐽 Creating a DIY laundry machine.![]()
🐽 Creating a place for FIV/FIP positive cats.![]()
🐽 Creating a space for dogs and building dog houses.![]()
🐽 Building benches, tables, etc.![]()

You don't need special skills to offer your help! If you're unfamiliar with a tool, you can learn. We can all learn from each other and contribute our skills and creativity to build the vegan shelter. What matters is being motivated to help. ![]()

Επιστρέφουμε από το Βέλγιο τον Μάιο, με ένα φορτηγάκι γεμάτο υλικά και προμήθειες για το καταφύγιο και τα ζώα! Σκοπεύετε να επισκεφτείτε το καταφύγιο και να μας βοηθήσετε στην κατασκευή του; Εδώ είναι μερικά πράγματα που πρέπει να γνωρίζετε!![]()

🌱 Είτε είστε vegan είτε όχι, όλα τα προϊόντα που χρησιμοποιούνται μέσα στο καταφύγιο πρέπει να είναι vegan, cruelty free και φιλικά προς το περιβάλλον. Αυτό περιλαμβάνει τρόφιμα, ροφήματα, σαμπουάν, σαπούνια κτλ. Όλο το νερό είτε θα καταλήγει στη φύση είτε θα συλλέγεται, επομένως δεν επιτρέπεται η χρήση χημικών προϊόντων, εκτός αν πρόκειται για ιατρικούς λόγους.![]()

🌱 Στον χώρο του καταφυγίου δεν επιτρέπεται η κατανάλωση αλκοόλ και η χρήση ουσιών. Το κάπνισμα επιτρέπεται σε συγκεκριμένα σημεία και τα τσιγάρα / καπνός πρέπει να είναι cruelty free.![]()

🌱 Είμαστε όλα υπεύθυνα για να διατηρούμε τον χώρο καθαρό και ασφαλή! Το 90% της έκτασης κάηκε πριν από τέσσερα χρόνια, επομένως έχουμε μηδενική ανοχή σε συμπεριφορές που θα μπορούσαν να θέσουν σε κίνδυνο το βουνό και τα ζώα.![]()

🌱Καλύπτουμε ένα μέρος του φαγητού, αλλά το καθένα είναι υπεύθυνοα να βρει τρόπους/λύσεις για το υπόλοιπο.![]()

🌱 Η διαμονή θα γίνεται σε σκηνές ή σε βαν. Προς το παρόν, έχουμε μόνο δύο μεγάλες σκηνές, επομένως συνιστάται να φέρετε τον δικό σας εξοπλισμό κατασκήνωσης. Παρέχουμε υπαίθρια ντους DIY, τουαλέτες κομποστοποίησης, εξοπλισμό μαγειρέματος και κουζίνας. Για ενέργεια, χρησιμοποιούμε φωτοβολταϊκά πάνελ, γεννήτρια και συσκευές υγραερίου.![]()

🌱 Το καταφύγιο βρίσκεται σε βουνό, επομένως η ύπαρξη ενός οχήματος για την ανεξαρτησία σας συνιστάται αλλά δεν είναι υποχρεωτική. Μπορούμε να παρέχουμε μεταφορά εμείς όταν μετακινούμαστε.![]()

Δεν χρειάζονται ειδικές δεξιότητες για να προσφέρετε τη βοήθειά σας! Εάν δεν είστε εξοικειωμένα με ένα εργαλείο, μπορείτε να μάθετε. Μπορούμε όλα να μάθουμε το ένα από το άλλο και να συνεισφέρουμε με τις δεξιότητες και τη δημιουργικότητά μας για να χτίσουμε το vegan καταφύγιο.![]()

We're nearing the point of settling into the shelter for good! Over the past 1.5 months, we divided our time between Athens and Thessaloniki, primarily focusing on arranging solidarity events and outlining our plans for May. Meanwhile, we spent a lot of time at the vets for surgeries and treatments, and fortunately, Aria, Alfi, Zilia, Pouyoute, and Frenzy are all fine!![]()

We have 2 more destinations before we go to the shelter. We are going back to Belgium for 1 month to work and to bring a van full of materials and supplies for the shelter and the animals. We will also organize a screening with food, so if you are in Brussels and want to help, please contact us! Afterward, we are returning to Athens to pick up our cat Frenzy and Rouki, who is in a foster house. Seizing this opportunity, we will organize one last event.![]()

By mid-May, we'll relocate to the shelter with the caravan and be ready to host visitors (we'll provide details in an upcoming post). Our plan includes purchasing two containers to securely store our belongings, tools, and animal food. We are still in the process to know if the land is buildable and what happens about the water permission if it's not. ![]()

Despite the shelter not being ready yet, there are already 10 animals waiting to join us there. This means we need to prepare and fence off three different areas to begin: one for the geese and turkeys, another for dogs being fostered by our vet, and a third for FIV-positive cats, allowing us to bring Rouki along. Given the difficulty in finding homes for FIV-positive cats, we've decided to dedicate a space for them.![]()

This weekend, we have decided to reclaim the streets by co-organizing a diy events for and with small creators and initiatives. ![]()
Everyone could participate if you were not a shop owner and if your creations are without animal products. ![]()
It took us only a few days to create this event, and it was quite a success. ![]()
We have met once more very nice people , seeing back some friends and comrade and making new contacts. It's the 3dr events that we organize this month in Thessaloniki, and we ![]()
This weekend, we decided to reclaim the streets by organizing a DIY event for small creators and initiatives. Everyone could participate if they were not shop owners and if their creations were without animal products. It only took us a few days to create this event, and it was quite a success. We met many nice people, reunited with some friends and comrades, and made new contacts. It's the third event we've organized this month in Thessaloniki, and we'd like to continue. Unfortunately, we have to return to Belgium for a month, and then we'll stay at the shelter to start the serious work. If you live in Belgium, stay tuned because we'll have a nice event coming up! It's been almost a year since we decided to bring our solidarity events to Thessaloniki, and two months since we began organizing this particular one! Events focused on animal liberation are rare, which is why we believe it's crucial to extend them to other cities. Also, it’s a good opportunity for shelters to receive help, that’s why we always aim to include more groups. All the profit of the bazaar helped equally DoggyBagCrew and Ark_of_Hope_shelter and the proceeds from the distro will be directed to support the ex-political prisoner, Ladislav Kuc. ![]()
During the bazaar, we had the opportunity to encounter wonderful individuals who generously offered their assistance, visited, or participated to show their support for the shelters! Thank you all for everything you did to make this event happen!![]()

Unfortunately, the event left us with mixed feelings. On Saturday night, a massive homo-transphobic attack occurred against 2 members of the LGBTQ+ community in the centre of Thessaloniki. On Sunday, thousands of individuals were scheduled to assemble at the same venue to protest against fascism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia.![]()

Although the event would still be open during the demo, we posted a call on the door to encourage more people to attend. However, one hour before the demo, a person from the political place hosting our bazaar, abruptly informed us that we needed to close within half an hour and told us to go outside to tell everyone to attend the demo. As "guests," we were not given a say in how or when to conclude the event. The authoritarian and rude behaviour was followed by more people and finally we were forced to close sooner, without even having the chance to announce it on time, so people wouldn't come until there for nothing. ![]()
We apologize to all the participants who experienced similar treatment, even though their tables were located outside on the pedestrian area and not inside the building. While we appreciate the warm welcome extended by some individuals from the place, we feel it's essential not to gloss over the behaviours we faced. Maintaining honesty and transparency is fundamental to us, and we refuse to portray a false image of everything being okay on social media.![]()

As antispeciesists, we are dedicated to fighting against all forms of oppression. While our primary focus lies on advocating for non-human animals through our shelter, we recognize the interconnectedness of all struggles. Often, we feel that even within the movement, the importance of animal liberation is diminished. It's crucial that we unite all struggles because only through collective action can we hope to achieve meaningful change.![]()

Our second solidarity event in Thessaloniki will take place on Friday, the 15th of March, at 18:00 at A.K.I. (Autodiahirizomeno Kilikio Iatrikis, ΑΠΘ). We will be screening the movie "Bold Native", offering vegan food, a bar, DIY distribution, animal liberation merchandise, a vinyl bar, and more! ![]()
Profits will contribute to the construction of the shelter and veterinary expenses. ![]()

We're continuing the tradition of our 'late updates post,' so one week after our Second Hand Bazaar and upon our arrival in Thessaloniki for the next one, here it is! It's the first time we've organized an event based on second-hand items, and we're really pleased with the results! All of the items came from your donations, and we couldn't be more thankful! Though it's been an exhausting week, driving across Athens to collect and organize everything, the effort was truly rewarding.![]()

The Vintage Piece for Peace team, along with our friends, arrived early, and together, we efficiently set up the bazaar in just a few hours! Meanwhile, gates have been installed at the shelter, preventing hunters and shepherds from trespassing! Our return to the shelter permanently in May means we won't be organizing solidarity events for the next few months.As we were unable to accommodate volunteers during the winter due to limited facilities, our current focus lies on event organization.![]()
